"Years of June” sports what might be Addison’s finest hook yet, and “Crashing Waves of Fascination” roars to give the song a bit of a full-band bite... A Rare Look Ahead never lets go of its pop convictions."

    A RARE LOOK AHEAD

In 2020, Mythical Motors released two albums: Leviathan Messiah and Sleepwalking On Main Street. Leviathan Messiah was a bit of a departure, as it focused more on heavy psychedelic songs as well as atmospheric acoustic pieces. Though it also contained some jangly pop, it was ultimately a darker album. For the follow-up, Sleepwalking On Main Street, they chose to make a more accessible and pop-oriented album.

"When it came time to choose the songs for A Rare Look Ahead, I decided to make an album with a more comprehensive range," Mythical Motors' Matt Addison explains.

"Years Of June," one of the singles from the album, is a driving jangle pop tune written from the perspective of a wandering spirit.

The dreamy soundscape of "Inescapable Midnight," stands in stark contrast with the jagged post-punk barrage of "Crashing Waves Of Fascination."

"Fix The Circulation," a New Wave-influenced track, flows... more

"Mythical Motors don't have to join the wave of new pretenders to the genre, they've always been Lo-Fi.  However, in Matt Addison they have one of the great songwriters.  Highly Recommended!"
-I Don't Hear A Single

"...the songs on A Rare Look Ahead harbor many influences, including The Clean, Wire, R.E.M, Superchunk, and the C-86 scene. The songs are short, and filled with hooks and poppy melodies."
-Add To Want List

"The opening title track is among the band’s best songs while the next two, “For a Cure” and “Years of June” take the hands of acoustic guitars and electric guitars and join them in holy matrimony. “A New Champion” adds a bit of psychedelia to the proceedings while “Rain Painting” had a splendid little jangly bit to it."

about

Mythical Motors Chattanooga, Tennessee

"With crashing power chords worthy of Pete Townshend, insidious melodies that you’d expect to find on a Clean album, and an offhand energy that’d make Robert Pollard green with energy, there’s nothing mythical going on here: It’s vivid, purposeful, and NOW.

Give Mythical Motors some love right now, so they don’t have to wait a few decades to get their due."
